parenting goals.

I will teach my child
what it means to be of the moon.
I won’t fight her sleeplessness:
I will bundle her up
and take her out under the stars.

I won’t fight her curiosity:
I will coax her into the woods
and lift up logs in search of bugs.

I won’t fight her aggression:
I’ll show her how to punch pillows
and to howl at the sky in fury.

I won’t fight her need to touch everything:
I will guide her hands,
and show her how to touch the world.

I won’t fight her silliness:
I’ll jump in puddles, too,
knowing there’s always extra clothes tucked away.

I won’t fight her wild:
I’ll scream back in play,
and show her my own wild.

I will teach my child
what it means to be of the moon,
and in my teaching,
I will be taught how to be
me again.
